Our Fellow Americans,
We invite you to join our party.
It is time to stop trusting in partisan politicians who are
beholden to special interest groups and start trusting in ourselves. If you join the Direct Democracy Party that
is exactly what you will be doing.
We
are fundamentally different from every other political
party because we don’t nominate leaders for political office. We
nominate followers. Candidates who will “follow” the will of the
people.
How are we so
different?
Our candidates agree to post all legislation and allow you (the
constituents) to decide how they (the representatives) will vote.
Every
piece of legislation will be posted along with an online discussion and
poll. Our candidates will vote based on
the results of these polls.
Why can’t the
current system be repaired?
The short answer is that the will of special interests
groups supersedes the will of the people.
Consider this. If a
special interest group can make $100 million by spending a few million lobbying
our congressmen they will do it, even if this $100 million in profit comes at a
cost of $300 million to the American taxpayers.
Since $300 million is only about a dollar a person it isn’t as if you
are going to jump on a plane and spend millions to convince your representative
to vote against it in order to save yourself $1. So, another costly piece of legislation is
added to the books and the special interest groups and politicians collect more
of your money.
What can you do?
1.
Join us.
In our system special interest groups will have no incentive to lobby
our representatives. Politicians will also
lose the incentive to sponsor wasteful legislation (bridges to nowhere) in an
attempt to bring money to their district because they can no longer get such
projects approved by agreeing to vote for someone else’s wasteful legislation.
2.
Help us to create a system that allows
representatives to post legislation, forums, and polls for their constituents
to vote on. We will need financial and
technical support in the near future to develop a system that allows our
candidates to register constituents, post legislation, hold forums, and poll
voters. We will also need a first wave
of candidates who could be potential city council members, state legislators,
or U.S. Representatives. These will have
to be strong willed people who agree to vote as their constituents demand
regardless of their own personal beliefs.
3.
Vote. Even if you don’t have money or technical
expertise you can contribute the most important thing of all . . . your
opinions and ideas. We hope that this
system will help to get Americans engaged in their government, because America
will once again be governed by the people.
| Our Purpose
We
the members of the Direct Democracy Party, are united by a common purpose. We seek to create a system in which the will
of the lobbyists and politicians will no longer supersede the will of the
people. We believe that whenever
possible the people should be given the opportunity to assert their will
through direct democracy. To that end we
shall encourage the sponsorship of initiatives and propositions so that the
will of the people can be determined and implemented. In instances where direct democracy is not
possible we shall nominate representatives for office who will vote according
to the will of the people. Constituents
will have the opportunity to vote on legislation, with each representative casting
their vote based on the preference of their constituency. Constituents
will also be afforded the opportunity to draft legislation that if supported,
by a majority of their constituents, will be sponsored by their
representative. Representatives will
post all proposed legislation, thereby providing constituents the opportunity
to discuss and vote on legislation.
